I like football. I like blogging. This is a football blog, which is essentially the best of both worlds. When I say football, that is to say the game also known as Soccer. I have no personal preference as to which name is used as the game stays the same regardless. Those who find themselves compelled to defend the term “Football” to near militant or religious fanaticism would do well to remember that the name “Soccer” comes from Association Football and is an entirely English invention.
I imagine the inspiration of the title of this blog is pretty clear to most readers. For those of you outside of England, however, the link may not be so clear. Since the dawn of time (or 1964) the BBC have shown a highlights show on a Saturday evening with the best bits of that day’s football matches. It goes by the name of Match of the Day and is a staple of any English Football fan’s televisual diet. Wikipedia has more information about the show. My name, as I’m sure you’ve by now guessed, is Dave. It didn’t take a huge leap of the imagination to put together.
If you’ve got some Football related news or an opinion you’d like to share, I’d love to hear from you. Simply get in touch via motd [at] matchofthedave.com (the joys of spam, eh? Remember to replace that [at] with an @ and remove any spaces) and if I like what you’ve got to say, I’ll post it up and give you credit. Don’t forget to include a name I can use for crediting you and your web site, if applicable. Should you wish to remain anonymous, state this clearly and your wishes will be respected.
